Kayla was born and raised in Minot. Her love for dance was realized at age 13 after many years as a competitive gymnast with Gymagic Gymnastics. Dance ignited an inextinguishable passion, and the rest is history. As a novice competitive dancer, she placed 2nd overall at Spotlight Nationals in Branson, Missouri. She spent the following summer in New York City, dancing with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. As a senior in high school, Kayla began teaching ballet classes at BrickStudio under the ownership of KaDee Simensen. She also enjoyed performing at basketball games with the Sky Rockets dance team.

Kayla danced for the UND dance team while attending college in Grand Forks. She also began coaching competition teams, winning awards at regional competitions for her choreography. Kayla danced as a soloist for the North Dakota Ballet Company. She performed lead roles in several ballets including La Fille Mal Gardee, The Nutcracker, and Alice in Wonderland. Kayla graduated from UND in 2013 with a B.S. in Psychology, as well as a B.S. in Medical Laboratory Science.

After graduation Kayla accepted a position as Medical Technologist at RMI in Fargo and began instructing at Gasper’s School of Dance. She continued to coach competition teams and gain recognition for her choreography. Kayla also danced as a soloist for the FM Ballet Company. Kayla traveled to Chicago, Illinois with the company to perform and study at Regional Dance America’s Midstates Dance Festival, one of the largest gatherings of Midwest professional dance companies.

Kayla is the mother of two lively children- AJ and Isla. She is the owner and full-time instructor at BrickStudio. She counts her lucky stars for each day she gets to do what she loves- dance, teach, laugh, and inspire.
